Healing Touch

Only Energy Modality Nationally Accredited

Definition of Healing Touch

Healing Touch is an energy therapy in which practitioners consciously use their hands in a heart-centered and intentional way to enhance, support and facilitate the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health and self-healing.  Healing Touch utilizes light or near-body touch to clear, balance and energize the human energy system to promote healing for mind, body, and spirit.

Healing Touch is an energy-based approach to health and healing.  It uses touch to influence the human energy system.  This system involves the energy field surrounding the body and the energy centers within the body, which control the energy flow from this field to the physical body.  These non-invasive techniques utilize the hands to clear, energize, and balance the human and environmental energy fields.  Thus, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels of health and healing are affected.  Healing Touch is based on a heart-centered, caring relationship in which the practitioner and client come together energetically to facilitate the client’s health and healing.(Healing Touch Level 1 Notebook page 12)

Healing Touch was founded by Janet Mentgen, RN, BSN, HNC, and HTCP/I in the 1980’s in Denver, Colorado.  It is recognized by the AHNA, American Holistic Nursing Association.  Janet received extensive training and guidance from such people as Roslyn Bruyere, Dr. Brugh Joy, Alice Bailey, Rod Campbell and Barbara Brennan.

Healing Touch program is actively pursuing national accreditation with the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.  Healing Touch program is practiced by many healthcare professionals such as nurses, doctors, massage therapist, respiratory therapist, chiropractors and counselors along with energy workers.

Concepts, Definitions and Principles in Healing Touch

Three parts of the energy system are:

1)     Energy Field – Aura

2)     Energy Centers – Chakras

3)     Energy Tracts- Meridians

The parts act interdependently and influence physical, emotional, mental and spiritual life.

ENERGY FIELD –

Four levels of Energy or Consciousness, Etheric, Emotional, Mental & Spiritual.

These energy fields store all life experiences.  Contained within the spiritual field are four layers (Astral, Etheric Template, Celestial, and Ketheric).

In health, the energy field is clear and has vibrant energy lines of force that allow for an effective exchange of energy to take place within and outside the physical self.

 ENERGY CENTERS (Chakras)

There are the seven major chakras

 Root (base)

Sacral

Solar Plexus

Heart

Throat

Brow (third Eye)

Crown

There are also minor chakras:  the Spinal Vertebrae, Hands, Elbow, Knees, Ankles, Feet, Hips, High Heart, Spleen, Finders, and Toes.  The chakras exchange energy between the layers of the energy filed and interface with the physical body.  They are the master switches of energy movement and are dispersed throughout the person.  They function as a spinning wheel comprised of several inner vortices in each chakra.  The major chakras are connected through a line of force paralleling the spinal column.

 ENERGY TRACTS (Meridians)

The energy tracts or meridians are lines of force where the life essence travels through the entire inside of the body.  Used in Shiatsu, acupuncture, acupressure and other holistic therapies they are acknowledged in HT work, but not specifically worked with during application of techniques.  The HT focus is on energy centers and energy fields.

What is a Healing Touch Session Like?

A typical Healing Touch session is one hour long.  There is an intake process and follow-up process prior to the actual energy work.  The client most often will lie on a massage table and the practitioner will touch the client and or work above the body.  The client may experience sensations of warm, cold, see colors or just an overall feeling of relaxation.  Everyone and every session is unique.  It is extremely important for the client to be gentle with themselves after a Healing Touch session.  It is recommended they soak in an Epson Salt Bath as it assists with the body detoxing.

The client and the practitioner will discuss the client’s responsibility to ensure the Healing Touch modality reaches the optimum potential for the client between sessions.  Often the client will require more than one session, typically three to four sessions, it depends on the individual.

Is There Research Available on Healing Touch?

There is a tremendous amount of research conducted on the effects of Healing Touch.  There are numerous studies completed on Cancer and Healing Touch, Healing Touch and quality of life in women with breast cancer receiving radiation therapy; Healing Touch for women experiencing fatigue while undergoing radiation therapy for breast cancer; Healing Touch as a supportive intervention for adult acute leukemia. There are many more studies completed.  If you are interested please ask Jo Ellen for a detailed print out of completed studies.
